For any dishwasher to work efficiently, detergent is indispensable. Detergent mixed with water will help to clean your dishes and utensils effectively.

It is recommended to use high quality premeasured tablets and packs for improved performance. Tablets and packs have been proven to be better at reducing filming on dishes than powder, liquid, or gel detergents.

Before starting a wash cycle, you should always put the detergent into the dispenser. The dispenser is usually attached to the dishwasher’s door. You can easily see it when opening the machine.

Note: If the detergent cup is wet or moist, wipe it with a dry cloth first.

Maytag Dishwasher Troubleshooting

Maytag dishwasher, just like other kinds of appliances, sometimes can’t 100% avoid troubleshootings during operating time.

Therefore, to really understand how to use Maytag dishwasher, you also need to know some of its troubleshootings and how to fix.

Following are some reasons why your Maytag dishwasher does not start or not properly operate:

  • The control lock is on
  • The dishwasher is in sleep mode
  • The delayed wash option is choosen
  • The door is not tightly closed and latched
  • Supply of water is not turned on
  • The power needs to be cycled to reset the dishwasher

The control lock is on

To turn off the control lock, you press Lock button and hold it for 4 seconds. Then the lock light will turn off.

The control lock feature is used to prevent unwanted use of the dishwasher as well as unexpected cycle or option changes during a cycle. Some models even have a Sleep mode.

The light of control lock will stay on for a short time, implying that it is activated and all other buttons are disabled. The light will flash 3 times if there are any buttons pressed while the control is locked.

While the control is locked, you can still open or close the machine’s door.

The dishwasher is in sleep mode

You need to disable Sleep mode by pressing either START/RESUME button or CANCEL button. You can also do this by opening and closing the door before you can turn off the control lock.

The delayed wash option is choosen

Delay wash option loads the dishwasher at a later time. If you select this option, the machine will not operate until it is the delay time.

To turn it off, you need to press CANCEL/DRAIN. Then you press START/RESUME to start the cycle.

The door is not tightly closed and latched

Ensure that the door of the machine is well closed and latched. Sometimes, a lower rack located backward can cause the door to not be properly latched.

Supply of water is not turned on

Ensure that you have turned on the dishwasher’s water supply. If you don’t know how to check it, read more about your machine’s instructions.

Reset the dishwasher

Sometimes, resetting the dishwasher can solve the problem.

To reset the dishwasher control panel, you detach it from the power supply for 1 minute. If usually you plug your dishwasher into an outlet, unplug it for 1 minute and then plug it back in.

If the dishwasher is hard wired to the power source, at the home electrical panel, you turn off the breaker which powers the dishwasher for 1 minute and then turn it back on.
